There is a cycle path in the Alps that allows travelers to admire incredible views and breathtaking landscapes, but not from the usual car window: riding a bike! It is the Alpe Adria cycle route, a cycling tour that started only in 2008, which boasts one of the most beautiful cycle paths in Europe, still almost unknown to the general public.
If you’re looking an active, extremely stimulating holiday, you can stop searching: you have found exactly what you need! Come and ride for 315 km, from Salzburg to Lake Bled!
The meeting point is in Salzburg, where you will spend the first night of the tour. After the arrival, there will be time to visit the historical center, always very lively and full of concerts and cultural activities, perfect to breathe the typical Austrian atmosphere.
A day dedicated to the discovery of the Salzach Valley, where one of the main attractions is the Hohenwerfen Castle, at a height of 113 m above the village of Werfen.
Following the cycle path that goes into the beautiful Gastein Valley and the beautiful Liechtensteinklamm (Liechtestein Gorge), you reach Bad Gastein. A waterfall that flows to the city center makes this place unique. The overnight stay is planned in the alpine village of Mallnitz, among the bright colors of the Hohe Tauern National Park.
You will cycle through Carinthia, where you will be surrounded by the beautiful Molltal Valley and the majesty of over 3000 m high peaks. The most intense moment of the day will undoubtedly be the cog railway (not included in the price) that rises above the Drava river valley, giving you a unique point of view, which alone will be worth the 40 km traveled in the day.
This day starts downhill, meeting the Drava river, which will take you first to Spittal and then to Villach, two beautiful, typically Austrian towns, which attract countless tourists every year, attracted by the beauty of the surrounding mountains.
A quick stop in Italy, in the town of Tarvisio for a coffee, and then resume the cycle path that runs along the old railway line on the Italian-Slovenian border, and along the charming Valle del Sava. The final destination of the day is Podkoren, which will be reached after 60 km of route covered in two routes.
The day starts with a nice tour of the nearby town of Kranjska Gora, one of the most popular ski resorts in Slovenia. The tour then continues through the beautiful forests of the Krma Valley, to get to the pearl of Slovenia: Lake Bled, a place where there is an almost fairytale atmosphere. At Lake Bled you can relax by choosing between a quiet boat trip to the islet or a coffee accompanied by the famous cake Bled (kremsnita), after the 45 km traveled in the day.
After breakfast, it’s time for the greetings and the end of the adventure!
