A fascinating journey in the extreme North of Finnish Lapland, to share the traditions of the Sami people and to experience the magic of the Northern Lights. The days in Lapland will entertain you with all the typical activities of the region, like safaris on snowmobiles and sled dogs, or visits to reindeer farms; you will spend a whole day in Inari, the village of ancient Sami, the last European indigenous ethnic group. During the trip, training sessions and photographic workshops will be held by the professional photographer Gabriele Menis on the field in order to try to capture the best of the Northern Lights and the natural beauty of the Arctic. Departure from Milan Malpensa or Rome Fiumicino airport, boarding Finnair scheduled flights for the
Lapland via Helsinki. Arrival in the late afternoon at Ivalo airport, the northernmost in
Finland, about 300 km north of the Arctic Circle, meeting with the guide and
about an hour transfer to Menesjarvi, an isolated lake where you will spend the four nights of
observations. Each participant will receive the special thermal clothing to be used for
all the stay in Lapland.
Dinner in the hotel restaurant. In the evening, walking on the frozen lake, you will have a spectacular
visual in case of appearance of the northern lights. Night owls will have the chance to spend time in
smaller kotas heated by fire. During the observational and photographic session,
the assistance of the professional photographer will always be available.
Buffet breakfast. Once you will have reached the snowmobiles parked on the lakefront in front of the hotel and
once you will have put on the helmets after a short briefing, you will leave for the safari lasting about 3 hours. Two people on
each snowmobile will alternate driving through frozen lakes to reach the lake. A quick stop for a camp lunch around the fire and
continuation of the safari among breathtaking sceneries in uncontaminated nature where encounters with reindeer and wild animals are frequent.
Return to the hotel and have some time for relaxation and a sauna. You will also have the chance to take part in a professional training workshop, held by the professional photographer. Dinner at the hotel restaurant and in the
evening the photographic easels on the frozen lake will be laid out, and the dawn will await. During the
observational and photographic session, the assistance of the professional photographer will always be available. Overnight.
Buffet breakfast. You will reach the sled dogs farm by bus, continuing the day in “Jack London” style. After a short but essential briefing on how to ride the sleds, you will set off for a two-hour safari in the woods, surrounded by peace and silence. After the safari, you will return to the farm, where the “Musher” will show you the characteristics of the breeding techniques. Lunch at the hotel; after that, you will have some time to relax and enjoy the sauna: there will also be the chance to have a photographic workshop on the Northern Lights. Dinner at the hotel restaurant and night observing the sky on the lake, with the provided assistance of the professional photographer.
Breakfast. You will reach Inari by bus, after a short stop at Sajos -the building hosting the Sami parliament- and at the interesting Sidaa museum. Buffet lunch at the museum. After lunch, your new destination will be a reindeer farm, for a tour on sleighs. After that, the breeders will show you the secrets of their lifestyle while you’ll enjoy a warm cup of coffee.
In the afternoon, you will get back to the hotel for some relax. Dinner in the traditional Kota and night completely dedicated to sky observations, with the assistance of the professional photographer available at all times.
